LASMA ARTMANE

Ballpoint pen and watercolour on paper. Not that happy about this one as it was my first drawing after quite a long break.

Animal: Tarzan chameleon (Calumma tarzan):
- Although Madagascar is home to 40% of the world’s known chameleon species, this 13 cm long lizard’s habitat only occupies very small fragments of isolated forests that is restricted to a range of less than 10 km.

- This jungle chameleon has a flat, spade-like snout and is typically yellow or green in colour. It emits interesting stripe patterns across its body when stressed.

- Tarzan chameleons, like other chameleons, are insectivores that eat a wide variety of insects and their larvae.

- The Tarzan chameleon is solitary and only comes together to breed.

- Females lay up to 5 eggs that hatch in up to 6 months.

2. Why they are endangered?
This chameleon is threatened by the ongoing clearance and destruction of its remaining habitat. Slash and burn farming and logging impact the forest and illegal gold mining is thought to be occurring in the habitat.
