This one was hard. But I couldn't resist drawing it once I found out that these majestic birds are endangered. 🦚 Fineliner and pen on paper.
1. Animal: green peafowl (pavo muticus):
- Unlike the Indian peafowl, the male and female green peafowl have similar colouration, although the peahen's colours are not as vibrant as the peacock's, and the male has a much longer tail.
- Total green peafowl population size is around 15,000-30,000 individuals. Once common to most of Asia, now its range has shrunk to primarily Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Vietnam, with only remnant populations found elsewhere.
- Despite their large size, green peafowl are capable of sustained flight and are often observed on the wing.
- Peafowl forages on the ground each day for grain, insects, small reptiles and mammals, berries, figs, leaves, seeds, and flower parts.
2. Why they are endangered?
Green peafowl have been listed as endangered since 2009. The main threats are habitat loss and intense poaching for their beautiful feathers as well as for food. The population in wild keeps decreasing.
